Importance of JupMala and Benefits
Pujya Swami Satyanandji Maharaj humbly requested every sadhak of Shri Ramsharnam to practice Naam Jaap with a Mala as a regular and essential part of their spiritual discipline. Jaap with Mala is not merely a ritual but a divine means to purify the mind, deepen devotion, and strengthen our connection with Ram. It is our sacred duty to abide by the Swamiji’s guidance to use Mala for Jaap and keeping the Mala handy to keep us refrain from unnecessary discussions.
Swamiji Maharaj explained, with reference to the Gita Saar that Param Purush Parmeshwar gives His divine assurance to every sincere sadhak: "One who constantly abides in Me and worships Me with unwavering devotion need not worry. I Myself provide what they lack and protect and preserve what they already have." This is the divine promise of Yog-Kshema.
Amritvani explains: यथा वृक्ष भी बीज से, जल रज ऋतु संयोग, पा कर, विकसे क्रम से, त्यों मंत्र से योग. While holding the mala in the hand and moving the beads focuses the mind, speech, and action, improving concentration during Jaap. Swamiji taught us not to rush through the beads, each bead should carry love and remembrance of Ram. Ram Naam Jaap brings peace to the mind, increases concentration, and gradually purifies our thoughts and inner being, preparing the sadhak for the ultimate spiritual goal. Swamiji Maharaj explained that Ram resides in His Divine Name, same as calling a person by their name immediately draws their attention, Ram Jaap invokes HIS divine presence. The more sincerely and continuously we chant Ram Naam, the deeper our connection with the Ram becomes, and the closer we draw to Him.
Swamiji Maharaj advised us that you can perform your Mala Jaap anytime however, Brahm Muhurat is a spiritually conducive time for Jaap / meditation and prayer. Before beginning, reflect upon your life, recognize your weaknesses, and seek ways to overcome them with faith that Divine grace of Ram is always guiding you.
Regular Jaap purifies the mind, helping overcome anger, greed, and lust while cultivating peace, humility, and devotion. Swamiji Maharaj Instructed all Sadhaks to give Naam Jaap priority over distractions and maintain discipline by fixing a place, time, and number of chants. A Mala of 108 beads helps maintain the count and focus during the practice, continuous practice of Jaap becomes a natural part of daily life. Gradually, the mind becomes connected with Naam, allowing remembrance and devotion to continue at any place and at any time.
When Ram Naam Jaap becomes continuous with every breath, it awakens Ajapa Jaap within, where the remembrance of Ram continues effortlessly even during sleep. Swamiji Maharaj taught that the constant presence of Ram Naam at the final breath becomes the divine guide that leads the soul towards Brahm Dham.
Swamiji emphasizing again and again the use of Mala Jaap is not only a way to count Naam, but the touch and movement of the beads help calm and focus the mind. Regular Jaap with Mala purifies thoughts, removes obstacles, strengthens inner courage, and brings the Divine grace of Ram. It also helps your digestion. Swamiji explained that after sincere Jaap, touching a painful area of another person's body may help relieve him / her pain through the divine vibrations of Naam.
Swami Ji expected his followers to chant the Ram Naam at least 10,000 times in a day. Mala helps us to achieve this daily Jaap goal. Consider Mala as the most precious gift you ever received in your life and give it all the love, care, and respect that it deserves.
